Daily Goal is not a good pattern

A few weeks ago I proposed trying Daily Goal for improving team focus on a goal. It was initially done for Kanban (read about Daily Goal concept) but we transformed to Scrum later on. From the current point, I can say that defining it on Daily Scrum does more harass than an actual value.

Main reasons why I think it was counterproductive:

  • A goal should be common throughout the team, but this is really hard to achieve when we are in the middle of Sprint with multiple things running simultaneously.
  • Multiple times we ended in goals so obvious as – “do our job”.
  • It added unnecessary complexity to Daily
  • It actually drags attention out of the Sprint Goal

Based on above in future, I will think about Daily Goals as about anti-pattern.
